Next stop - Greece (Acropolis of Athens)

When: end of May.
Where to get visa - Embassy in Sofia (closest to me)

Places we plan to visit:
1) Acropolis of Athens - an ancient citadel with the remains of several ancient buildings.
2) Propylaea - monumental gateway - entrance to the Acropolis of Athens.
On the left - what it might have looked like (drawing). On the right - what has remained.
3) One of the most famous buildings located on the territory of Acropolis is a Parthenon - the temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. The temple was constructed on the place of the older temple of Athena, that is known as Pre-Parthenon or Older Parthenon.

4)  Erechteion -  an ancient temple dedicated to Athena and Poseidon.
The supporting columns that are represented in the sculptures of women (known as Caryatids) are actually replicas, and the originals are presented in the Acropolis museum. However, there are only 5 columns out of 6, since the 6th one is in British Museum in London. The 6th column (original one) was removed by Lord Elgin in the beginning of the 19th century for decoration of his mansion.
5) Odeon of Herodes Atticus - stone theater structure, which was constructed later than other buildings on the territory of Acropolis. The sitting places and stage were reconstructed in 1950 in order to arrange concerts and dancing festivals, which is I believe was a good idea, since it is not only the historical place but useful space.

To be continued...
